As Wanderers - alongside Bolton Wanderers in the Community - dedicate Saturday’s game against Shrewsbury Town to World Mental Health Day, the club would like to remind supporters of the role they have to play as a fanbase.
World Mental Health Day is marked on Thursday 10th October, with this year’s theme surrounding ‘Prioritising Mental Health in the Workplace’ – highlighting the importance of wellbeing at work for the benefit of people, for organisations, and for communities.
Football is an incredibly emotional sport, with passion at the forefront of a supporter’s mindset as they take their seat – when it is channelled in a positive manner.
However, ahead of World Mental Health Day, recent surveys have shown that not only is it the pressures at work that can affect our health and well-being, but also the noise around us.
This can be coming from colleagues, external sources or in particular social media, with more and more highlighting abuse through its misuse.
Here at Bolton Wanderers, we should recognise that this is also a place of work for our players and staff, as well as a place of enjoyment for our fans. No one should feel intimidated or suffer abuse from any source, and we shall continue to endeavour to stamp that out of the game.
Bolton Wanderers prides itself on being a family club, who look after their own. By continuing to carry the mantra of One Club, One Community, One Town – we can ensure that our football club remains united and is a place for all.
As the lads get set to go to work on Saturday afternoon following a third straight league victory, the club would like to remind supporters of the vital role they have to play if the club is to be successful this season.
Togetherness is key - whether that be at home or away, or through online platforms - the impact you can have on the field is incredible, and we need you alongside us once again this season.
