Report | Salford City U18s 1-2 Wanderers U18s

18s report

Wanderers U18s side continued their unbeaten start to the season with another victory over a resilient Salford side to make it four wins and one draw in the current EFL Youth Alliance North West Football League.

The young Whites got off to a dream start as Conor Lewis’ corner found captain Sean Hogan who poked home his second goal in as many matches to give Wanderers an early lead within 90 seconds of the match.

Leo Graham added a second on 10 minutes as a Harrison Fleury’s shot was deflected into Graham’s path before he slotted the ball into the back of the net but the linesman deemed Graham to be in an offside position.

It didn't take long for the second goal to come Wanderers' way as Yestin Shakespear drove from inside his own half, taking it around two defenders before calmly side footing the ball past the Salford goalkeeper.

There were chances to add a third as Emile Oliver came close on two occasions, Conor Lewis saw his attempt from eight yards out narrowly miss the post and Harley Irwin had a long ranged effort sail over the bar.

Julian Darby made his first change of the match at half-time with Daeshon Lawrence replacing Conor Lewis as he rejigged his side. Debutant Sol Honor, who recently joined on loan from Blackburn Rovers, made a fantastic double save to deny Salford from pulling an early second-half goal back.

However, Salford won a penalty on the stroke of the hour mark as the referee pointed to spot following James Westwood’s challenge. Honor got a hand to the strike from 12-yards but couldn’t prevent it from going in.
