Wanderers continued their surge up the League One table as two goals in each half sent the in-form Whites into the top six, writes Pete Oliver.
A first goal of the season from Ricardo Almeida Santos set Ian Evatt’s men on their way to a sixth victory in eight league games to maintain the momentum ahead of Saturday’s FA Cup opener at Walsall.
John McAtee quickly followed up to make it 2-0 with just 15 minutes gone at Broadhall Way.
And there was no let-up from the Whites who passed a test of their defensive capabilities from a barrage of Boro set-pieces before wrapping up a fourth away win of the campaign after the break.
Victor Adeboyejo rifled home his first league goal since his opening-day winner at Leyton Orient with an hour gone.
And despite a reply from Dan Kemp there was never any real threat to Wanderers’ dominance as top scorer Dion Charles came off the bench to add a slick fourth goal a couple of minutes from the end of a highly impressive away-day performance which sees the Whites sitting in the play-off places and with their poor start to the season a fading memory.
Stevenage had boasted one of the best defensive records in the division but were undone twice in the opening half-hour.
McAtee had gone close with a diving header well saved by Taye Ashby-Hammond before Almeida Santos powered home a header from a Josh Sheehan corner to open the scoring.
McAtee then drilled home his third goal of the season on the bounce from just outside the penalty area after a Sheehan free-kick had been headed clear.
And while Boro did their best to strike back from a succession of set-plays Wanderers – with Will Forrester admirably stepping into the breach following injury to Eoin Toal –stood firm.
The Whites continued to look dangerous on the break as Ashby-Hammond remained the busier keeper and with an hour gone it was a counter-attack that saw Wanderers add a third to tighten their grip.
Sheehan sprung the trap with another lovely pass to the galloping Szabi Schön. And while the wing-back’s dangerous ball in should have been better dealt with, Adeboyejo wasn’t complaining as he clinically side-footed into the top corner to make it 3-0.
Stevenage did respond with only their 10th goal of the season as Kemp coolly finished after a fierce strike had ricocheted off Wanderers’ keeper Luke Southwood.
But there were to be no late nerves as the Whites’ fresh legs off the bench re-asserted control and Charles helped himself to his seventh of the campaign when he slid in to steer home Josh Dacres’Cogley’s perfect ball in to further delight the travelling fans.
