The B Team has further strengthened its squad with a second summer signing in the shape of left-sided defender Ajay Weston.

Weston, who can play as a left-back or in a more advanced wing-back role, has signed a two-year deal with Wanderers after leaving Championship club Hull City.

The 19-year-old spent a year as a professional with the Tigers after completing his two-year scholarship at Huddersfield Town and joins the young Whites after impressing in a trial spell with the B Team towards the end of last season.

Weston played at U21 level for Hull in the Professional Development League and is now looking to take the next step in his career under B Team boss Andy Taylor after starting out as a youngster with Forest Green and Cheltenham Town in his native south-west.

“Things have certainly taken a more northern route in the last few years which I've got to say I have preferred,” said Weston, whose defensive qualities and ability to attack from a wide position will add further depth to the emerging players in the B Team project.

“I did have a good time when I was younger at Forest Green and Cheltenham but there’s a lot going on up here and lots of clubs and competition.

“Playing in the under-21s with Hull was a good test for me, playing against some quality under- 21 teams with good players. I got a lot of minutes there and although unfortunately it didn't work out for me there, I'm sure it will here.

“I learned a lot at Hull and this is a new club and a new chapter. I like the playing style and when I came on trial, I knew exactly that I wanted to be here and to have two years, with a bit more security of a second year, will give myself the best chance.

“I'm sure pre-season will be tough - it always is - but we've got a good bunch of lads who have already made me feel welcome, which is all I want. I love the area, as well, so it's all going right so far.”

The arrival of Weston follows the signing of attacking midfielder Dubem Eze and the elevation of half-a-dozen new first-year professionals to the B Team ranks as the Whites look to continue to develop their pathway from the Academy to potential first-team football.
