Women's Preview | Morecambe v Wanderers

women preview

With four games to go in the Division One North, Bolton Wanderers Women travel to Morecambe on Sunday afternoon looking to secure another victory to edge them closer to promotion.

The Whites are in the knowledge that fate is in their own hands, and victory in their next three fixtures will seal their pre-season target of winning the league, starting with Morecambe this weekend.

Another away game stands in front of Wanderers on Sunday - their third consecutive away trip in a run of five games on the road - with Morecambe the hosts at the Trimpell Sports Club, kick-off 2pm.

Myles Smith's side head into this game on the back of a superb performance away to Haslingden last week, as goals from Faye Knox (2), Eboni Bradshaw (2) and Neishai Gordon secured a 5-0 win and three more vital points in an assured display against a team sat in a low block.

That should stand Wanderers in good stead this weekend as they look to record another league double over Sunday's opponents following their 4-0 success back in January at the Dreams2Reality Stadium - Jess Lightfoot, Bradshaw, Gordon and Madison Hardman all on the mark in tough playing conditions.

But the home side currently sit just one place above the relegation drop-zone heading into this weekend's game, with defeats in their last two outings against Preston North End and Atherton LR. They have struck results recently, however, with back-to-back wins against Radcliffe and Hindley Juniors earlier this month.

With a need for points to push them further away from the relegation battle, they are a side that Myles Smith knows will provide a tough challenge this weekend.

"Morecambe is a difficult place to go," he said.

"They are a team that are just above water at the moment - so similarly to when we played Blackpool and other teams down the lower end of the table - they want and need points so we have to be aware of that.

"We can't become complacent on the day, and they played this week against Preston and took a bit of a thumping, so they will now be looking to react on the back of that.

"We have to be ready for Morecambe, but they can approach the game in a number of different ways. We've analysed every possibility and we will go there on Sunday and be prepared for every approach.

"If they do something different on the day, the team will react - as they have done all season - and hopefully we can come away with the three points."
