The Youth Team looks to secure a first piece of silverware this season when they face Blackpool in the final of the Lancashire FA Professional Youth Cup tonight (Wednesday), writes Pete Oliver.

Julian Darby’s side is enjoying a superb campaign as they currently top the table in the northern section of the EFL Youth Alliance with an unbeaten record.

The young Whites have also reached the northern final of the Alliance League Cup but are looking no further ahead than the opportunity to become county champions when they face the Seasiders at the Lancashire FA’s headquarters in Leyland (kick-off 7.30pm).

“It’s been a very good season, but we've not won anything yet,” said captain Harley Irwin. “It’s just important that we keep going, keep doing what we're doing and hopefully be able to pick up some silverware towards the end.”

Irwin was part of the side that lost last season’s final 3-0 to Blackburn Rovers. But having avenged that loss with an impressive semi-final win over the holders, the midfielder hopes the young Whites can go one better this time around.

“I think having been there last year will definitely help. We'll be familiar with the place and hopefully the result will be different.

“Yes, it's a big occasion but it's just another game, really and if we turn up and we do what we have been doing, then I don't see a reason why we can't deliver.”

Admission to tonight’s final at the County Ground is via cash at the turnstiles, with prices £8 for adults and £4 concessions.
